Psychology · Chapter 2 · Priscilla: love as status
Not About Another Girl
Intuition as micro-signal reading; denial
“And that thought was, for some reason, not about another girl.” Priscilla’s “female intuition” is not mysticism — it is high-precision data processing: a fraction of a second of tension, a word said too quickly, a gaze that sticks. She reads what Jacob does not yet know about himself — and reads it before he does.
But the knowledge turns out to be unbearable: the rival is not “another girl” but the grey boy by the lockers, and that shatters her entire picture of the world. So denial switches on: “nonsense, he’s just having fun”. A person is capable of knowing and refusing to know at the same time — and on that split Priscilla will now have to live.
